OLLI activities begin February 1st

Join the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) for its first spring session, "The Joy of Storytelling--Why Stories Still Matter," on Wednesday, February 1 at 2:30 pm in the Satellite Student Union.

Explore the joy of sharing stories and the meaning they provide with author David Mas Masumoto. Ironically, in this digital age, "story" is more significant than ever. Come and participate in the act of story creation. Masumoto is a third-generation farmer growing peaches, grapes, nectarines, and raisins on an organic 80-acre farm, and is author of four books including Epitaph for a Peach.

OLLI is a membership program designed for adults age 50+ who wish to learn in a relaxed, fun atmosphere without grades or tests. The spring semester includes seven general sessions, 13 short courses, and three field trips. Associate memberships are $25 per person for the spring semester; general memberships are $65 for a single or $110 for a couple for the semester. Classroom & Video Services will present a session on the use of multimedia equipment in smart classrooms on Friday, January 13, 2012. Faculty members teaching in smart classrooms on campus, as well as anyone interested in enhanced technology, are invited to attend this instructive session.

Approximately 5:53 pm

Location:

Barstow and Tenth, Millbrook and Joyal Ct., Bulldog Lane between Ninth and Cedar, Cedar between Bulldog Lane and Barstow.

On 11-26-2011 at about 1753 hrs. an unknown suspect(s) driving a 2000s model Mitsubishi passenger vehicle with tinted windows and large chrome rims fired 7 shots into the air in the westbound lanes of Barstow Avenue just west of Tenth Street. About 20 minutes later a vehicle matching the same description was seen firing 10 shots in the air on southbound Millbrook at Joyal Court. The silver vehicle made an eastbound turn onto Bulldog Lane and fired another 7 shots in the air on Bulldog Lane west of Cedar Avenue. The vehicle was seen making a northbound turn onto Cedar from Bulldog Lane and about 4 more shots were fired in the air and Cedar between Bulldog Lane and Barstow. There were no victims.

Fire blocking Shaw Ave. east of campus

Shaw Avenue is closed at Chestnut because of a fire at a car dealership on the south side of Shaw between Willow and Freeway 168. Employees leaving the campus will be diverted from Shaw north on Chestnut to Barstow or Bullard. University Police recommends campus employees expect some delays and plan accordingly.

CCA Call for Guest Speakers
